We’re sure you’ve heard of turmeric – But what about how to use it?

It’s pretty strong in flavor and bright in it’s orange color, so the most common question surrounding the use of turmeric is how to use it. So if you’re staring at that jar of bright orange spice in your cabinet, counting in your head the months its been sitting there without being used, don’t be discouraged. This is the written for you.

Let’s get started with the use of turmeric you’re probably most familiar with:

Golden Milk.

Quite likely the more commonly seen use of turmeric throughout cafes and health restaurants, which is a mixture of turmeric and sometimes a mix other warm spices like black pepper blended with a hot milk of choice.

We’ve tried all kinds of combinations, and we highly suggest using our favs: oat milk or almond milk. Just prepare your milk the way you normally would for a latte, then add your turmeric and optional spices. You can either mix the turmeric in with a smaller fraction of the warm milk in order to fully combine it – or if you have a high powered blender or handheld milk frother, you can mix the turmeric in that way.

Now you don’t have to stick to the usual warm beverage to enjoy the benefits of this little root. You can also use it in one of our favorite breakfast go-to’s:

Tofu Scramble.

The tofu scramble is a killer classic that reigns among the top breakfast options of all healthy champions. Adding a bit of turmeric is the secret the getting that yellow/orange color that resembles real egg scramble and also gives it an unbeatable flavor. Add a bit of black pepper, garlic, nutritional yeast, and salt and you’re good to go. Take it up a level and use black salt, which has an extra egg-y taste from the high sulphur content.

Sweet Turmeric Paste:

Another favorite of ours is making a Sweet Turmeric Paste by combining our Yacon Syrup with turmeric and a bit of black pepper to create a delicious sweet and spicy paste that can be spread on anything. And we’re talking anything…

-drizzled over baked sweet potatoes

-a spoonful in your tea or coffee

-layered between the peanut butter and jelly in your PB&J

-a spoonful in your smoothie recipes

-added to soups for extra flavor and depth

-drizzled over cooked rice

-in an energy date ball recipe

-poured over pancakes or waffles

-drizzled over oatmeal or added into overnight oats

-okay, we’ll stop now…lots of options, you get our point here

Turmeric is good with a lot of things. You just have to know how to use it. We barely touched the tip of the iceberg when it comes to recipes you can add turmeric to. So if you’re still staring at that jar in your cabinet, don’t worry. There are so many ways to use this spice. Just get to experimenting and see what you like, the possibilities are endless.
